What can go wrong in
pool and spa closing or
winterization?
There are a number of mistakes that can be made during
closing or winterizing your pool and spa. Some of the
more severe examples are these:
FROZEN PIPES can ruin your pool and cost up to $6000
or more to repair. Perfection has seen examples of
frozen PVC pipes under the ground split their entire
length. If these pipes are under your pool deck or pool
walls, the pipe will have to be excavated and replaced at
significant construction cost.
DAMAGED EQUIPMENT from freezing water include
pumps, heaters, filters, and plumbing can have
significant cost for replacement or repair.
DAMAGED TILE can occur from freezing water.
DAMAGED SKIMMERS from frozen water can cause leaks
requiring costly removal and replacement.
DIRTY WATER DAMAGE from improperly cleaned and
treated pools, sitting for months into the spring, can
cause staining of your plaster. This might require
expensive acid washing and in severe cases, you may
need to re-plaster your pool at costs up to $8000 or
more.
DIRTY WATER, even if it does not cause damage to your
plaster, will cost you more to restart the pool in
chemicals, time, and labor. Properly closing your pool
and spa will almost eliminate these costs.
These risks are easily avoided by calling the pool
winterization experts at Perfection Pools & Spas.
