Solar Pool Covers

Solar Pool Covers are often clear, somewhat transparent, and may look like bubble wrap. They do not actually heat the water effectively, but they act like a blanket to keep the water temperature from decreasing as much from the elements or through evaporation. Solar Covers are useful in New Mexico because there is a big change in temperature from day to night and because the air is dry which promotes evaporative cooling. These covers are typically light-weight, inexpensive, and easy to remove by hand or through a reel device that rolls them up at one end of the pool. Some more expensive options include having semi- automatic or automatic features. They are not useful as winter pool covers. Ask Perfection Pools if a Solar Pool Cover is right for your situation.

Solid Vinal or Canvas Pool Covers

These are pool covers that are water and air tight. They do not allow water, fine debris, or any other objects to penetrate and settle into the pool. They also provide safety for children, pets, and adults. These covers are more expensive than mesh pool covers and may be automatic or manual. Perfection Pools recommends this type of cover in Albuquerque because it will result in a faster and less costly pool opening in spring. Because these covers retain water on top, most owners keep a pool cover pump on them during the closed seasons. These covers also can retain dust, dirt, leave, etc., so need to be cleaned. You can do this, or Perfection Pools can provide this type of maintenance. Solid Pool covers may be manual or automatic.

Mesh Pool Covers

Mesh pool covers are porous. They allow water and fine debris to penetrate and settle into the pool. They keep out larger items like leaves and provide safety for children, pets, and adults. They are typically less expensive than flexible but solid pool covers such as vinal or canvas. Perfection Pools does not recommend this type of cover in Albuquerque because it will result in a dirty pool in spring that costs more to open. Mesh covers may be more useful in other parts of the country where they don’t have sandstorms! Mesh covers are often easier to remove to pull off. Some mesh covers are simply leaf nets intended to keep leafs out of the pool where a large number of falling leaves may exist.



Pool & Spa Cover Repair

Pool covers can become damaged from age or items falling on the pool and ripping the pool cover fabric. Automated pool covers may fall off their track or rip at points of stress.

Rips in covers that float on the surface of your pool can be costly if the pool cover starts to sink. If you have an automatic pool cover pump, it may start to drain your pool! If the pool cover starts to sink, it could be pulled into the pool causing larger tears or damage to the automatic cover.
